Roman Reigns once again defied the odds and defeated Edge and Daniel Bryan in the main event for day two of WrestleMania 37 to retain his Universal Championship.

The three superstars put on a clinical back-and-forth match, but Reigns stood tall to close out the show, thanks to some help from Jey Uso. Reigns pinned Bryan and The Rated-R Superstar at the same time to win the match.

This was Reigns' fifth WrestleMania main event, and the victory moved him to 3-2 in that spot. He also defeated Triple H and The Undertaker in the main events of WrestleMania 32 and WrestleMania 33, respectively.

Following his thrilling victory at WrestleMania 37, Reigns delivered a passionate and powerful statement on WWE Watch Along (h/t Marc Middleton of WrestlingInc.com).

"What’d you think was gonna happen? Y’all calling me a liar? I told y’all on Friday – I’m gonna smash ’em, I’m gonna stack ’em, I’m gonna pin ’em 1-2-3, I’m gonna stand up, put this over my head, let them look up to a greater man," the Universal Champion said.

"A million dollars of pyro – pow, pow, pow. Just like I called it. And still. Now it’s time. Paul, what time is it?"

Paul Heyman responded with "What time is it? It’s Roman Reigns’ time, what’s what time it is."

This definitely felt like a night where his title reign could come to an end for multiple reasons. For starters, WrestleMania is usually a popular time and place for a heel champion to lose to a babyface.

And secondly, the triple threat showdown meant that Reigns could drop the title but still be "protected" with Edge or Bryan instead taking the pinfall/submission. But ultimately, WWE decided to keep the championship on Reigns.

The 35-year-old Reigns has been the Universal Champion for 224 days (and counting). He has yet to lose a match cleanly since his return at SummerSlam 2020, where he began his heel turn.

WWE Is Making Reigns "The Guy"

In 2015, WWE started pushing Reigns as the new top face of the company. He was heavily booed and rejected by the fans, and yet it didn't stop WWE from continuing their push.

WWE finally decided to turn Reigns heel last year, and it's starting to pay off. Fans seem to be a lot more invested in his heel persona compared to the babyface role. With a monumental victory at WrestleMania 37, it's clear that WWE is planning to make Reigns "the guy", be it as a face or as a heel. This was a giant victory for the future Hall of Famer, one that will only strengthen his push over the long run.
