Rozier Swaps Shirts With Idol D-Wade 6 Years After Asking Him To Watch His High School Highlights

Boston Celtics point guard Terry Rozier swapped Jerseys with Miami Heat star vet Dwyane Wade on Thursday night, becoming the latest to receive a memento from the soon-to-be-retired shooting guard during his farewell tour.

Wade, who announced that this season will be his last in the NBA ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, has started up a pretty cool tradition, exchanging jerseys with a select opposing player or handing his game-worn shirt to someone not actually playing (Chris Bosh for eg.) after every game.

With the Heat beating the Celtics 115-99 at home this week, Rozier was the one who shared the honors with the three-time champion. But he admits he never thought it would ever happen.

Apparently, the Celtics guard considers Wade his idol. And back in August of 2012, he sent a tweet to the Heat star asking him to check out his highlights on YouTube.

Wade did check said highlights out and must have congratulated a then-teenage Rozier, who told him "hopefully one day we meet!" in reply to whatever Wade tweeted back.

Well, Rozier got to do more than meet D-Wade, he can boast having played against the former Marquette star and now has a game-worn jersey in his possession. What's more, Wade has his jersey too.

“I just never thought I’d see this day, witnessing his one last dance and actually playing against him and stuff like that,” the 24-year-old Celtics guard told reporters after Thursday's game.

“It was mandatory that I got his jersey. I wouldn’t let nobody else get it.”

What This Means

Going from idolizing an NBA star to actually playing against him is no small feat. Rozier is now one of the most sought-after point guards in the NBA right now, given his situation in Boston, and is good enough to start on any team.

Unfortunately, the ex-Louisville star is playing behind one of the game's best in Kyrie Irving and will have to bide his time. But he has something Kyrie likely doesn't have right now: a Wade jersey of the most authentic variety.
