Despite recent reports that John Cena might somehow work his way into the Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin match, reports are WWE has other plans for the multi-time WWE Champion-turned movie star.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Cena does have a deal on the table to show up at WWE's biggest pay-per-view of the year and he might actually be wrestling. Unfortunately, that match likely won’t come against Angle. Instead, Angle vs. Corbin looks to be going on as originally planned, despite the major backlash from fans.

Part of the desire by the WWE Universe to see Cena get involved is because Angle vs. Cena brings back memories of a young prospect trying to defeat Angle in an open challenge. Offering "Ruthless Aggression", it was Cena's memorable match with Angle that gave him his start in WWE. It only seems fitting that Cena is on hand to say goodbye to one of the best to ever lace up the boots in his farewell match.

Moreso, Angle has noticeably slowed down in the ring and there isn't a lot of faith that Corbin can pull a good final bout out of the once former great. His matches with Chad Gable, Samoa Joe, Apollo Crews weren't exactly show-stealers and his final bout with AJ Styles was cut short because Angle was in rough shape trying to wrestle as often as he has been.  Corbin seems to have heel heat, but he's not known as the type of in-ring worker who can overcompensate for Angle's inefficiencies. With someone like Cena, the actual match takes a back seat to the emotional story.

What This Means

If Cena isn’t facing Angle at WrestleMania 35, what exactly is the 16-time World Champion going to be doing? There's been no build-up, the only big star who isn't really on the card is Dean Ambrose and that match doesn't make much sense. Could Cena get involved in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal?
