On Tuesday, many wrestling fans on Twitter brought up a rumor that John Cena's WWE contract was on the verge of expiring, leading to speculation that he could end up leaving for another promotion.

Some of the fans claimed that the rumor was started up by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. As you could guess, it led to quite a frenzy of reactions from the wrestling world:

But as noted by Paul Davis of WrestlingNews.co, Meltzer never mentioned this rumor. It is merely speculation that somehow got around on Twitter, but there isn't any news on Cena's contract status whatsoever.

There is simply no way that Cena would leave WWE for a rival promotion. Even though he's mainly focused on a Hollywood career now, the 16-time World Champion emphasized that he'll always be part of the WWE family - and that he'll never truly leave the company that made him a star:

"WWE is my family, they’ll always be my family and none of any of this exists without them, and I will never forget that.I don’t think I’ll ever retire, because I don’t look at it like that...You don’t retire from your family. I will never, ever stop waving the WWE flag...I don’t think I’ll ever separate myself from them."

So now, Cena isn't about to leave WWE for a rival promotion like AEW. Vince McMahon would never let it happen willingly, and Cena's loyalty is on the level of The Undertaker's. It's WWE or nothing.

If AEW were to add Cena, it would have had the same kind of impact that Hulk Hogan had for WCW when he signed with them in 1994. But it's not going to happen, wrestling fans. Keep on dreaming.

Cena has only wrestled one match dating back to last year's Royal Rumble event. He faced "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36 in a Firefly Fun House match, where Cena lost via pinfall. Although he rarely wrestles now, Cena still manages to make several WWE television appearances per year.

Cena Will Never Leave WWE

Again, don't bother dreaming about Cena possibly leaving WWE to wrestle elsewhere. At this point, the future Hall of Famer might only have a few more matches left in his legendary career. And they're all going to happen right here in WWE.
