AJ Lee and CM Punk didn't leave the WWE on the best of terms, but it sounds like there's a chance of seeing the former Divas Champion could return for the upcoming Evolution pay-per-view.

According to Joe Peisich from Barnburner’s Fired Up (h/t Ringside News), WWE has given Lee an offer to make a special return, strictly for Evolution on Oct. 28 in East Garden City, New York.

"Vince McMahon picked up the phone and he reached out to AJ Lee about returning at the Evolution pay-per-view. AJ has not confirmed or denied that. Sources tell me they’re closing in on a deal with AJ Lee."

The very first all-women's pay-per-view already has one confirmed returning legend, as Trish Stratus will square off against former Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss.

The Barclays Center in Brooklyn also dropped a hint that Michelle McCool - who appeared at the very first all-women's Royal Rumble in January - could be appearing at Evolution. It's also expected that Lita and Beth Phoenix, both Hall of Famers, will be present.

The only other confirmed match thus far is Tony Storm vs. Io Shirai in the Mae Young Classic tournament final. For Lee and the other returning female legends, it remains to be seen what sort of match they would take part in.

But bringing back Lee would be classy move from the WWE, given her contributions to the women's division before retiring in 2015. Besides the three Divas Championships, Lee was named the 2012 and 2014 Diva of the Year. She was an excellent in-ring performer. Her feud with the Bella twins also received critical acclaim from fans and wrestling pundits.

WWE has done everything in their power to avoid mentioning Punk since his ugly departure four years ago. For Lee, she was caught in the middle of a difficult situation but went on for another year, before eventually retiring.

Despite any form of bitter feelings Lee and WWE officials may have, it's a classy move on their end to try and have her back for the historic pay-per-view.
