Oddly, WWE has edited video footage of Bray Wyatt's in-ring re-debut from SummerSlam, removing footage that included the Wyatt lantern head. Why?
If you watch the video below posted by WWE on their YouTube account, you'll see some of the footage of The Fiend making his entrance at Sunday's SummerSlam event. What you won't see are any closeups of the lantern-shaped Bray Wyatt head. For some reason, WWE has removed most of the footage on their social media accounts and there are no photos on WWE.com of the horror-inspired prop.
For a lot of fans, the head lantern was the creepiest and best part of Wyatt's return. It was the kind of prop you had a hard time taking your eyes off of and it was clear a great deal of time and effort went into making it look realistic. Actor and horror icon Tom Savini and his team created the creepy mask of The Fiend and while fans are loving it, they might love the lantern even more.
There were a variety of reports after the video was changed and photos removed that WWE was going to get rid of the lantern, possibly because it was too scary and that there might have been some complaints from YouTube that it was essentially a decapitated head. Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live today that he reached out to multiple sources on the matter and none of them had heard anything about the lantern being dropped.
For fans who want to see the head stay, there is more potential good news. Reports are the head lantern is going to be a part of Wyatt's upcoming Mattel action figure for The Fiend. WWE is apparently also producing more of the lanterns, apparently for other merchandise items.
What This Means
It is odd that the lantern has not been featured since The Fiend made his return at SummerSlam. Fans will be eagerly watching to see if it shows up the next time Wyatt has a match as that character.
At worst, if the head is too gruesome, perhaps WWE is going to make slight changes to it. Let's just hope they don't get rid of it altogether. It was totally awesome.
