In 2018, WWE launched a brand new branch of NXT, NXT UK. Despite the rumored next target being Japan, some signs point to a country much closer to home.

Throughout the 1980s, 90s, and even early 2000s if you include WCW, Vince McMahon made it his personal mission to own every territory in the US and Canada. That mission has long since been accomplished. WWE has been the leader in professional wrestling in the western hemisphere for almost 20 years, and even the arrival of AEW isn't going to change that.

Once WWE bought out WCW, most fans likely assumed that was that. However, Mr. McMahon was not satisfied. Ever since then, he has had his sights set on turning WWE into a global brand. He and his Superstars have definitely done that. However, via NXT, WWE is attempting to combine world domination with the old territory system it effectively destroyed.

RUMOR: WWE To Counter AEW By Moving NXT To FS1

NXT started life as a feeder system for WWE's main roster, but has become so much more than that since then. In fact, last year it reached a size where part of it split off and became NXT UK. The widely held belief is that NXT UK will be the first of many territories that are formed in this way. If the rumors turn out to be true, we will soon have NXT Japan and NXT Australia too.

However, according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the next NXT territory will be much closer to home. "There is at least talk of establishing a new NXT Canada brand," Dave Meltzer reported this week. It would be a move that makes a lot of sense should it happen. Right now, Canadian wrestlers have to relocate all the way to Florida should they want to be a part of NXT and the Performance Center.

Not only is WWE apparently putting the pieces in place for an NXT Canada brand, but apparently it already has its first trainer on board. Anthony Carelli, better known as Santino Marella to WWE fans. Despite the character he played on TV, Carelli is actually Canadian, not Italian. Perhaps his role with NXT Canada was discussed during his visit to the Raw Reunion this past Monday.
