As the milestone SmackDown 1000 episode on Oct. 16 draws closer, talks of legends returning for the special segment continue to ramp up.

According to Barnburner’s Fired Up podcast, WWE is talking with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and that they're "very very close" to finalizing a deal to bring him back for the SmackDown special.

The Undertaker is also reported to make his return for the show, which takes place inside the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. Other legends will likely make appearances, though we might not find out which ones until the day of.

Rock last appeared for the WWE at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas, where he confronted The Wyatt Family. He defeated Erick Rowan in six seconds, then worked with former rival John Cena to fight off the other Wyatt Family members.

It was widely reported that WWE wanted Rock to team up with Ronda Rousey in her mixed tag match vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania 34, but his Hollywood schedule wouldn't allow it.

Of course, bringing back The Rock for its 1,000th episode of SmackDown Live is a must for the WWE. He was one of the most influential superstars during the blue brand's early years, and The Rock provided so many iconic moments or it.

Rock wasn't able to attend the 10-year anniversary special episode in 2009, but he did cut a recorded promo before hand, which was played for the live crowd and television audience. But judging by the latest reports, The People's Champion will be present in Washington, and the arena promises to be filled with thunderous roars.

The Capital One Arena has already advertised a handful of big matches set to take place, including AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe for the WWE Championship and Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz. But as long as Rock shows up at the event, he'll certainly be the one that steals the show.
