As seen on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, Kevin Owens took a microphone and "quit," following a loss to Seth Rollins, leaving the WWE Universe completely mystified.
Now, it's impossible to believe that Owens is legitimately done fighting for the WWE, and it's only a matter of time until he returns. But with Owens "quitting," it could mean that WWE is planning to repackage his character, or at least put KO in a new storyline.
According to a rumor from Barnburner's Fired Up podcast, Owens could be paired up with Paul Heyman, once he returns to television. With Brock Lesnar taking a hiatus from WWE to focus on UFC, Heyman is in need of a new client, so matching him with Owens makes sense.
The creative team has taken quite the approach with Owens since he won the Universal Championship two years ago. They've had him bounce around from feud to feud to feud, and have taken him completely out of the main event picture.
They used Owens to get squashed by Braun Strowman over and over again for a couple of months. This included having The Monster Among Men flip over KO while he was in a portable bathroom, throwing him off the top of a cage and squashing him at SummerSlam.
With Owens quitting, it's safe to suggest WWE is planning to shake things up with his character. Heyman has the talents and experience to work well with just about any superstar, but given Owens' strong microphone skills, it'll be interesting to see how these two would work together.
For now, the real question is now long Owens will be off of television for. It could be days, weeks or perhaps months. Either way, expect a major change to his character and angle when Owens returns.
