Some people will literally do everything to make it to WrestleMania – that seems to be the overarching story for John Cena, as the Cenation leader, having failed to get there after defeats at Elimination Chamber and Fastlane, is now challenging The Undertaker, and making no bones about how he wants to face the Deadman at ‘Mania. On a lesser degree, that also appears to be the case for Cena’s WrestleMania 31 opponent, Rusev, who can’t sneak into any of the title pictures over at SmackDown Live.

With AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura’s match for the WWE Championship building up, and Randy Orton, Bobby Roode, and Jinder Mahal now in a three-way feud for the United States Championship, it would seem that Rusev wants to go to WrestleMania 34 by taking a rather unusual route — getting a match against a celebrity. On Wednesday night, the Bulgarian Brute took to Twitter to issue his challenge, and while he did not name any celebrities in particular, the intent is obvious – if April 8, 2018 is going to be a happy Rusev Day, the man needs to wrestle someone famous (and someone who isn't affiliated with the WWE) at ‘Mania.

Rusev may not have any specific celebrity in mind, but the WWE Universe has quite a few ideas, as evidenced by the replies to his two Twitter posts. Many fans have "nominated" controversial YouTuber Logan Paul – apparently, the furor behind his "Suicide Forest" stunt has yet to die down, and fans want him to be put in the Accolade for his troubles. Other suggestions, however, have been on the more serious side, with fans also nominating The Rock and Conor McGregor. Dwayne Johnson may still make occasional appearances on WWE programming, but since he's no longer an active performer, while also being firmly established in Hollywood, he does definitely qualify as a potential WrestleMania celebrity guest these days.

Although it's been some time since a celebrity had taken part in a WrestleMania match, there was a time when it wasn't unusual for famous non-wrestlers to fight it out in the squared circle against WWE's Superstars. Of course, this all dates back to the very first 'Mania, where Hulk Hogan and actor Mr. T teamed up against Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff in the show's main event. We've also seen Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow at WrestleMania XI, Big Show facing sumo legend Akebono and boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. at WrestleMania XXI and XXIV, respectively, and Jersey Shore's Snooki in a six-person mixed tag match at WrestleMania XXVII – the list could go on.

As we've seen in those aforementioned matches, it was always the celebrity non-wrestler, or their tag team going over. Much as we love Rusev Day and everything it stands for, Rusev needs to be careful what he wishes for; if he gets it, he might end up eating a pin at the Showcase of the Immortals, which he can ill afford, given how inconsistently he's been booked in recent years.
