The Saints asserted themselves as the favorites after defeating the Carolina Panthers on Monday, while both the Rams and Chiefs lost their Week 15 contests. The Saints just need to win one of their final two games to clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
New Orleans has never lost a home playoff game under Drew Brees, and their only loss at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome happened back in Week 1. Because the Saints are in prime position to clinch the top seed in the NFC, it's no surprise that they're the betting favorites to win it all.
The Rams fell to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but they sit comfortably at 11-3 and are in good position to finish with the second seed. Jared Goff, Brandin Cooks and Todd Gurley lead a high-powered offense, and it's safe to say that this team will be a tough out come January.
As for the Chiefs, they're tied with the Los Angeles Chargers for the best record in the AFC at 11-3.Second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes is among the MVP candidates, along with Brees and Philip Rivers. Kansas City holds the tiebreaker with a superior record inside the division. They'll have to match or better the Chargers' finish over these final two games.
What This Means
Right now, it's safe to say that at least 10 teams are legitimate Super Bowl contenders as January nears. But the Saints have cemented themselves as the team to beat, with the Chiefs, Chargers and Rams right behind them.
