Injured WWE superstar Sami Zayn announced on social media that he underwent surgery on a torn rotator cuff on his left shoulder, several weeks after he required an operation on his right rotator cuff.
No timetable was provided on when Zayn could return. His last match was at Money in the Bank on June 17, where Zayn would lose a singles match to Bobby Lashley. The 34-year-old Canadian was visibly injured and extremely limited in the match, which explained why Lashley finished him off with relative ease.
Zayn revealed in June that he worked through the injury for a while, and he believes he suffered it during a show in Montreal. Zayn wasn't able to wrestle through the left rotator cuff any longer and decided to get surgery on both.
In regards to a return timetable, Zayn simply mentioned he would be "out for a little while with that," and that "these next eight months aren’t going to be fun." MedLinePlus gives a recovery time of about four-to-six months for rotator cuff repairs.
Before his injury, Zayn was engaged in a feud with Lashley, who returned to the WWE after WrestleMania 34. Zayn taunted Lashley's family and mocked his military service, which resulted in an aforementioned loss at MITB.
Zayn had been teaming up with Kevin Owens, who has since embarked on a feud with Braun Strowman. Zayn was "signed" by Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon after the two were "fired" from SmackDown Live.
Zayn came over from NXT and joined the WWE's main roster in 2016, and has been used as both a babyface and heel. Though many fans had hoped he'd receive a main event push, Zayn has been used in strange storylines and feuds throughout his WWE career and has yet to win a title on the main roster.
For now, the focus is for Zayn to recover smoothly and return to the ring, no longer injured. We're not sure when he's going to return, but fans only hope one of the top superstars will be back sooner rather than later.
