A week after the Cyberbullying scandal involving his girlfriend against Erik Karlsson and his wife, Melinda, the Ottawa Senators traded veteran forward Mike Hoffman to the San Jose Sharks:

Interestingly, the Sharks then flipped Hoffman over to the Florida Panthers for a bundle of draft picks:

Certainly, the Senators could have gotten more in a trade for Hoffman had it not been for the alleged bullying scandal. Melinda filed an order of protection against Monica Caryk, the fiancee of Hoffman. It alleged that Monica sent over 1,000 harmful messages towards the Karlssons, even making taunting the stillbirth of their son.

With that, Senators general manager Pierre Dorion didn't have much of a choice but to trade Hoffman - even for a mild return. That being said, Mikkel Boedker is a two-time 50-point player that didn't fit in with San Jose, so perhaps a change of scenery will help him regain that previous form.

As for Julius Bergman, he was drafted 46th overall by the Sharks in 2014. The 6-foot-1 Swedish blueliner has spent the last three seasons for the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL, and looks ready to make the leap to the NHL real soon.

The Senators may not be done wheeling in the trade market, however. Karlsson has been heavily involved in trade rumors for a number of months now, while J.G. Pageau and Zack Smith are also potential candidates to be shipped out.

For the Sharks, they acquire a handful of picks - which GM Doug Wilson can use in more trades this offseason. He has the option to try and trade up in the draft this weekend, or Wilson could simply package them in another deal.

And the Panthers? They get a player who's scored 22-plus goals in four consecutive seasons, and it didn't cost them any prime roster players. If Hoffman and his fiancee don't bring any drama to the team, this could be a great addition.
