The Shield's reunion came to an abrupt halt when Dean Ambrose tore his triceps in December, and the former WWE Champion was ruled out of action fo up to nine months.

The Lunatic had returned to the Monday Night Raw brand via the Superstar Shake-Up, and finally got Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins back together to reunite The Shield. But with Ambrose getting injured, Jason Jordan stepped in to team up with Rollins.

Unfortunately, Jordan required neck surgery and was ruled out indefinitely, so Rollins and Reigns went their own ways. With that, The Shield will most likely stay disbanded until Ambrose returns.

But there is good news for Ambrose and Shield fans. Speaking with kfm 94.5's Kfm Mornings with Darren, Sherlin, and Sibs (h/t WrestlingInc.com) Rollins provided an encouraging update on Ambrose's status.

"Ambrose is injured, yes. I don't know the whereabouts or the details of his injury. He had some pretty extensive triceps surgery earlier this year, so, he's definitely still on the mend and rehabbing.

But he'll be back and better than ever, you wait, Summer time, maybe late Spring. Somewhere in there I think, whenever that wily guy gets back to normal."

However, Rollins downplayed the idea of Shield reuniting when Ambrose returned. Unless he's trying to hide the creative team's plan to reunite the trio, Rollins only had bad news to share for fans.

"Yeah, we're all buds, I mean, we'll probably be doing our own thing, "he said. "There's no hard feelings there, we're all still friends, so you can still pickup your Shield shirt at WWE Shop."

Rollins defeated The Miz and Finn Balor at WrestleMania 34 to become the new Intercontinental Champion, while Reigns is coming off a Universal Championship loss to Brock Lesnar. However, Reigns will get his rematch at next Friday's Greatest Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

We'll continue to monitor Ambrose's status and timetable frame. And when he returns, it's anybody's guess if it will lead to another Shield runion.
