WrestleMania 24 was, by all accounts, a great show for the WWE, but the thing that will be remembered forever by wrestling fans is the final match (in WWE anyway) of the legendary Nature Boy, Ric Flair, as he was retired by the equally legendary Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels. Michaels recently appeared on the In this Corner podcast, and while many topics were discussed, the main one was this iconic match, and it’s great to hear HBK open up about such an interesting topic.

Being an admitted control freak, Michaels wanted complete control of creative for the match, and that’s exactly what he did, and as he put it “I just know what I wanted – that match quite honestly, it was my love letter to Ric Flair”. Obviously Flair was Michaels' hero, and the man he believes is the greatest wrestler of all-time. Thus HBK felt it was more than just a wrestling match, so he wanted it to be perfect, and quite honestly, it was incredibly close especially when you figure in the age of both men.

Flair had previously stated that “it would be an honor to be retired by Shawn Michaels”, and we have to say that with the story-telling, in-ring chemistry and just the aura surrounding the moment, these two guys knocked it out of the park. The biggest moment from the match is one that would tug on the heart-strings of anyone, no matter your age, and that’s the final “I love you” from Shawn Michaels. So you can tell he did a good job in taking control of the creative direction of the match, because we all had tears in our eyes.

So what do you guys think? Did HBK do a great job putting this match together? Did you cry during the ending? If not, why are you such a liar? As always, let us know all your thoughts in the comments below.
