According to Shinsuke Nakamura’s book ‘The King of Strong Style: 1980-2014’, Nakamura was not a huge fan of what he believed was a lack of respect shown by Brock Lesnar for the wrestling industry. Nakamura mentions personal issues he took with Lesnar and their time in New Japan Pro Wrestling back in 2006.

While the heat is over a decade old and perhaps no longer an issue, excerpts from the book come off as quite interesting in light of the recent rumors surrounding both Nakamura and Lesnar and their current statuses with WWE. Speculation is that Nakamura is being highly coveted for a return to NJPW when his contract expires in January of 2019 and Lesnar is constantly in a battle with WWE over his contract status, working as few dates as possible for the most money.

Lesnar has long had a reputation as a man who simply "does his job." He's not known to love the wrestling industry nor be terribly respective of it. Reddit User Nivvd revealed the following quotes from Nakamura's book that further that reputation while adding that his disrespect might have carried over to the Japanese people:

“First, Lesnar was saying all this stuff about how he respected New Japan, but it felt to me like that was just for show, that he didn’t really respect the promotion. Like, somewhere, he was looking down on Japanese people. I lost the match, and that was the first time I cried at pro wrestling after a match.”

Nakamura added that he was so disappointed in the match itself, noting “It was the main event at Tokyo Dome. This was a pretty hallowed stage and I knew I hadn’t fought the way I imagined I would." He cited a temperature difference between he and Lesnar and that he didn't get the sense Lesnar loved pro wrestling and was merely doing his job.

Nakamura went on to say he felt Lesnar was scoffing at NJPW and warned the promotion Lesnar would do damage to the reputation of the NJPW belt. Once he saw Lesnar in UFC and how much the fans booed him, Nakamura said he knew he was right and that Lesnar "was a heel to the core."
