Lucha Libre legend Silver King has passed away aged just 51. The luchador died in the ring after he was believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Nothing brings the wrestling world together like the passing of a legend. It's sad that it often takes something so tragic to unite a fanbase that is constantly bickering, but that is, unfortunately, the case. In 2018, it felt like that eventuality happened far too often. Legends such as Vader, Brian Christopher, and Jim Neidhart all passing away within a short space of time.

Another sad truth in regard to the wrestling business is its performers being taken way before their time. It thankfully doesn't tend to happen as often as it did 20 or 30 years ago, but it does still take place from time to time. In fact, we have sadly experienced a tragic case of it this weekend as lucha libre legend Silver King passed away at the age of just 51.

What makes this particular tragedy even harder to swallow is the manner in which it happened. Not only was Silver King still an active wrestler, but he actually passed away while performing in the ring. The luchador, whose real name was Cesar Cuauhtemoc Gonzalez Barron, was competing for Lucha Libre World at a show in London on Saturday.

While battling fellow Mexican legend Juventud Guerrera, Barron lay on the mat for an extended period of time. Medical professionals then used a defibrillator on him before he was taken to hospital and he passed away. According to PWInsider, Barron suffered a heart attack while in the ring. Sexy Starr and Lucha Blog confirmed the terrible news to be true on Twitter.

Many fans might not be familiar with Silver King's work. You need look no further than Twitter right now to see how big an influence he had on the business. Wrestlers from the past and present have been taking to social media to thank him for being such a big influence in their careers. While not his best work per se, unfamiliar fans can check out some of Silver King's matches on the WWE Network. He wrestled for WCW between 1997 and 2000.
