If recent reports are accurate, one of the more iconic Canadian buildings in WWE history will be torn down and with its demolition, some of the most iconic moments in WWE history will be immortalized.

Blogto.com is reporting that Rogers Communications Inc., which purchased the Toronto SkyDome in 2004, is looking to have the venue demolished. The plan is to "construct a new stadium as part of a downtown Toronto redevelopment." and the building they'll put in the place of where the SkyDome is currently standing, will be smaller one, more accommodating for more events.

It is believed that, if this goes ahead, developers will publicly announce future plans sometime in 2021. But, according to the Globe and Mail, Rogers and its partners want "a new, baseball-focused stadium on the foundations of the southern end of the current facility and adjacent parking lots". From there, the northern portion of the 12.7-acre site will be turned into a full on, mixed-use mega-development.

The SkyDome has hosted some of WWE's biggest moments. It was home to Wrestlemania 6 in 1990, an event that featured Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior in a title versus title match. That bout saw the Ultimate Warrior defeat Hulk Hogan in a passing-of-the-torch moment. SkyDome also hosted Wrestlemania 18, an event which featured one of the biggest icon-vs-icon matches in WWE history as Hulk Hogan faced off with The Rock.

The SkyDome also happens to hold the record for the most fans ever to attend a Monday Night Raw show live, as 41, 432 fans packed the building in 1999.

A Sad Day For Canadian Wrestling Fans

Not a lot of huge moments happen in Canada when it comes to WWE, but the SkyDome happens to be home to some of the biggest. It was one of the go-to locations if the wrestling promotion was considering a big venue up north but as the teams who typically use the building have trouble selling it out, a smaller venue makes more sense.

If the pandemic and live shows ever do return, it will be interesting to see if WWE finds a new go-to arena in Canada.
