There's a spot open on The Mandalorian and WWE fans have been lobbying for Sonya Deville to be considered.

The Star Wars world was shaken somewhat this week via the reveal that Lucasfilm and Disney had cut ties with Gina Carano. Carano played Cara Dune during the first two seasons of The Mandalorian but will now not be returning to the show. The release of Carano from all future Disney projects comes after social media posts from the star in which she compared the current political climate to the suffering of Jewish people during World War 2.

That leaves Disney with something of a quandary. Not only was Dune still a character in The Mandalorian come the end of season two, but there were apparently plans for her to have her own spinoff show. Chances are a replacement for the role is being considered, and wrestling fans want Sonya Deville to be in the running.

A number of fans have taken to Twitter to fight Deville's corner when it comes to getting her cast as the new Dune. "@SonyaDevilleWWE could literally step into the Cara Dune character tomorrow and not miss a beat," tweeted Jon Alba. Alba isn't the only one who thinks so either as a number of tweets echoing his thoughts have been flooding social media over the past 24 hours.

They might be onto something too. Deville has an MMA background, just like Carano, and definitely has the swagger the role requires. While Deville hasn't reacted to the tweets at the time of typing this, she has said she'd love to star in The Mandalorian in the past. The SmackDown Superstar said as much during an interview with Comic Book last year.

The creators of The Mandalorian have previous when it comes to hiring wrestlers, of course. Sasha Banks debuted as Kona Reeves during season two and might well return whenever we get to see season three. Perhaps the next time Banks makes an appearance as Reeves, she'll be sharing the expansive Star Wars universe with a new version of Cara Dune played by Deville.
