Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has admitted that his troops have been given a dose of reality following their 3rd consecutive loss.

The defending champs have lost four of their last five games, with their most recent coming against the San Antonio Spurs, who beat them 104-92 on Sunday night.

And Kerr reckons they're only now playing in the "real NBA" after four and a half years of a "charmed existence."

"Oh, yeah," the coach said after Sunday's reverse, per The Athletic's Anthony Slater. "But I've had a dream run for four and a half years. We've had such a charmed existence the last four seasons. This is the toughest stretch we've been in.

"This is the real NBA. We haven't been in the real NBA the last few years. We've been in this dream. And so now we're faced real adversity and we got to get out of it ourselves."

The Warriors have been without Steph Curry for several games - the guard is recovering from a groin injury - while Draymond Green has missed the last two games with a sore toe, having previously sat out a suspension for his exchange with Kevin Durant last week.

Kerr says the solution must come from within for his shaken Dubs side.

"Everyone has to come together and you can't feel sorry for yourselves," he continued. "You have to commit to fighting and executing, competing for 48 minutes. I thought we did that for maybe 24 minutes tonight. We had a couple good stretches. I was very proud of the group in the second half, got us back in the game and they fought.

"It's not enough to do that for a stretch and then go through a bad spell. You got to be competing the whole time and playing with some poise and playing with a purpose. I didn't think we did that tonight."

Durant and Klay Thompson being depended on to take up the brunt of the scoring in Curry's absence. And Kerr claims the pair are trying hard to help the team arrest the slump.

"They're both trying desperately to help us get going," he said. "We rely on them pretty heavily for scoring, obviously particularly with Steph out. But, again, we've got to get back to our team identity, which is great ball movement, really good defense, playing off of misses, getting out in transition, and moving the ball, getting great shots. That's easier said than done, but it's something we've done for many years."

What This Means

The Warriors were always likely to struggle without Curry, yet things could have worked out a bit better had it not been for last Monday's episode.

The official word on Green is that he's been granted time away to rest his foot. However, there are suggestions that the forward is more than fit enough to play.

They are expected to returning ways once their championship core is reinstated. But the rest of the NBA have already smelled blood and it could turn out to be a very long season for Kerr and his men.
