Sting vs. The Undertaker is widely regarded as one of the top dream matches that never happened in the WWE, and the fans and wrestling prognosticators continue to ponder what could have been.

When Sting finally debuted for the WWE at Survivor Series 2014, there was plenty of optimism that the creative team would set up a WrestleMania 31 match between The Vigilante and The Deadman. Instead, Sting would face Triple H in a losing effort, while Undertaker defeated Bray Wyatt.

Sting retired from the WWE in 2016 after sustaining a neck injury several months earlier. Though rumors have suggested that he'd come back for one more match against Undertaker, Sting finally put an end to the dream.

Appearing on Lilian Garcia's Chasing Glory Podcast (h/t Cageside Seats), Sting confirmed that he's done wrestling and is fine with the fact he'll never go one-on-one with Undertaker.

"Yeah, I’m really done. I mean my neck doesn’t bother me at all...I got to be careful and it’s sad too because even at my age I feel like I could still go. I could still have a real good Undertaker match, for example. We could tell an incredible story with both the chemics and the mystique of both of them...but I’m satisfied.

I’m happy with the way things turned out. I did have my WWE run, it was short, but I had one. I did WrestleMania, I wrestled Seth Rollins, I wrestled for the WWE world title, so I can’t complain."

Many aren't aware that Sting and The Undertaker actually faced off in a WCW match back in 1990, with the latter wrestling under the 'Mean' Mark Callous gimmick. But this was well before Undertaker became the legend we all know today, and a few years before Sting introduced his iconic Crow gimmick.

Fans really wanted to see the former face of WCW go up against The Undertaker, due in large part to their respective mysterious and intimidating characters. But it was never meant to be, and fans have had to accept for several years now that the dream match won't happen.

But as Sting noted, his short run with the WWE was still highly successful, and we fans have been fortunate in seeing The Undertaker go head to head with the vast majority of wrestling icons in his era.
