WWE may have a date set for SummerSlam this year. Following news that the company was considering hosting the PPV earlier than usual, it appears they will be staying with the typical August showing, per to WrestlingNews.co, who cites PWInsider.

According to the report, the promotion is looking at August 22 but hasn’t settled on a location. It’s very likely that fans will be part of the affair - such was the case at WrestleMania 37 last month. A number of states are relaxing restrictions and sports venues should return to full-capacity activities in due time.

Last week, the WrestleVotes Twitter account made claims of the show possibly being held earlier.

The tweet reads: “WWE is looking to have SummerSlam be the official kickoff as a “return to touring.” With that said, if things work out a certain way, the PPV might be even earlier than usual this year. I’ve heard 3 to 4 locations are on the table, with 1 having better odds than the others.”

The Next Big PPV

WWE is understood to be viewing SummerSlam as its next big PPV - of course, that’s usually the case, with WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble and Survivor Series the other main spectacles. This year, though, special emphasis will be placed as it’s likely going to be the next event to host a full audience.

It’s also hoped that touring could be started up again after SummerSlam as it’s expected that most of the United States will be vaccinated by that point.

The promotion usually hosts the PPV from mid to late August but WrestleVotes had indicated it could be moved up, with three or four locations being considered. The latest indication suggests things will remain the same for the time being, though.
