While the rumored plan is for Roman Reigns to win the Universal Title at SummerSlam, WWE is apparently still on the fence about it.

WWE decided to close out this year's WrestleMania with the Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. If you watched the event then you will know that the fans did not exactly welcome it with open arms. What made it even worse is The Beast Incarnate retained the title and the two of them had a rematch less than a month later at Greatest Royal Rumble.

Since then Lesnar has been nowhere to be seen and the fans have turned on both him and Reigns even more so. Nevertheless, WWE is planning to have the two of them square off once again. The Big Dog defeated Bobby Lashley on Raw this past week, earning him the right to take on the Universal Champion once again on August 19, 2018.

Now that the match is booked there are a few other questions fans are eager to know the answer to. First up, will it be going on last? If yes, that feels like a big mistake. AJ Styles versus Samoa Joe will be on the same card, a match fans will be much more receptive to. According to Cageside Seats' latest rumor roundup, WWE is not as tone deaf as we might think and apparently higher-ups are worried about the fan reaction to the match at SummerSlam.

Cageside Seats has also reported that the current plan is to finally have Reigns win the title from Lesnar. The sad fact of the matter is at this point, it doesn't matter who wins, the crowd reaction is going to be poor either way. What fans are hoping for at this stage is the unlikely third option, a Money In The Bank cash-in. If that does happen it could be Braun Strowman or even Kevin Owens.

WWE has really backed itself into a corner with this one. Truth be told, it did that prior to WrestleMania. Since then Vince McMahon and co have continued to dig and now it truly is a no-win situation. It feels as if damage limitation is the order of the day at this point. Don't have Lesnar versus Reigns close SummerSlam and if you do, make sure that there's a big-time cash-in.
