Former WWE Superstar and announcer, Taz was not invited to SmackDown 1000 despite being one of the show's voices for a number of years.

On the surface, SmackDown's 1000th episode earlier this week went off without a hitch. In fact, aside from some timing issues, it sounds as if everything went pretty smoothly. It was a fitting celebration to boot. A long list of returning stars, some of which have featured heavily during the blue brand's history, coupled with current stars. That allowed some of the ongoing angles to continue.

Some of the stars that returned included Edge, Batista, and Rey Mysterio, all men who have SmackDown to thank in part for their success. However, there were also some names that were inexplicably absent. Most notably the announcers. The voices of Raw for years, Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler returned for the red brand's 25th anniversary. The equivalent did not happen for SmackDown 1000.

If you ask most fans who they consider to be the voices of SmackDown, they'd likely reply Michael Cole and Taz. Since Cole is still employed by the company it was a big shock not to hear his voice. On the Taz side of things, the former ECW Champion revealed on his podcast The Taz Show that he wasn't even invited.

"It is ridiculous. I’ve got to be honest with you….I heard nothing and maybe they were waiting for me to reach them. That’s not how this cowboy’s wired up," Taz revealed to his guest, Mike Johnson. He believes that WWE isn't completely okay with him for two reasons. One, because he left the company on his own terms and two, because he often criticizes the company's current product on his podcast.

Whether higher-ups at WWE like Taz or not, it wasn't too long ago that he was last backstage for an episode of SmackDown. At the blue brand's 900th episode, Taz was in the building to record the ECW panel show which was shown on the WWE Network. The Human Suplex Machine also revealed on The Taz Show that he suggested doing something on that episode of SmackDown, but nothing wound up happening.
