When the Houston Texans take the field for Sunday's road contest against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, they'll try to put an end to one very embarrassing and lengthy drought.

As pointed out by John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans will try to be the first Houston-based NFL team to defeat the Eagles. Neither the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans), or Texans have ever done it.

Houston and Philadelphia last met in 2014, which was a 31-21 road victory for the Eagles. Based on the current NFL schedule rotation, the two teams only play each other once every four years. Barring a Super Bowl meeting over the next four years, this will be the Texans' final chance to put an end to the streak until 2022.

The Houston Oilers relocated to Tennessee for the 1997 season, and the franchise changed its name to "Titans" in 1999. It's worth noting that the Titans have beaten the Eagles five times in their history - including Week 4 of this season.

But any time a football team from Houston has taken the field to play the Eagles, the folks in Philadelphia have always been the one celebrating. It's all up to Deshaun Watson and co. to put an end to that drought this Sunday.

What This Means

This game has plenty of playoff implications. The Texans will clinch the AFC South with a victory on Sunday. If they win their final two games, Houston will secure a first-round bye alongside the AFC West champion - either the Kansas City Chiefs or Los Angeles Chargers.

As for the defending champion Eagles, they'll have to win out to finish 9-7 and have any hope of reaching the postseason. They'll also need the 8-6 Seattle Seahawks and/or 7-6-1 Minnesota Vikings to lose out.

Otherwise, the Eagles will miss out on the playoffs. They can't control their own destiny, but a win against the Texans is absolutely vital if there's any hope of squeaking in.
