The Latest In Soccer Transfer News

In 2018, the summer transfer window for the soccer is much different than past years. Unlike previous years, when every major league ended its transfer business on the same day, Aug. 31, 2018, will see some clubs close the transfer window before others.

In all cases though, clubs can still sign players after the deadline as free agents, as long as they are not officially linked to a team after Aug. 31, 2018. The following are just a few of the current European transfer rumors, possibilities, and bidding wars.

Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira

According to Telegraph, Malcom, 21, a Brazilian footballer that played most recently for Girondins de Bordeaux, has just been signed by the FC Barcelona in a last-gasp bid. It was rumored that the winger would be transferred to A.S. Roma, with fans even waiting for him at the airport, but in the end, Barcelona won out with a five-year €41 million contract and an additional €1 million in bonuses. Needless to say, A.S. Roma was not happy and sporting director Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, aka Monchi, said the club would consider legal action against Bordeaux. Malcom spent three seasons with Bordeaux and scored 23 goals in 96 games.

Harry Maguire

Jacob Harry Maguire, 25, an English professional footballer, has played as a center-back for Premier League club Leicester City since June 2017. There were rumors that Manchester United was trying to lure the player, but Leicester hinted at getting Maguire to sign a new contract valued at £80,000 per week. The transfer window this summer closes on Aug. 9, 2018, so chances are that Maguire will stay put.

"It is important for Maguire to continue for Leicester. It is a good feeling. If our players are interesting a lot of clubs it is because we are recruiting well and doing good work. It is important we continue this,” said Claude Puel, the manager of Leicester City. "When we welcome players back from the World Cup, I hope we can give them the opportunity to continue advancing their ambitions and perform in the Premier League."

Steven Nzonzi

Via The Week UK

Steven Nzonzi, 29, who currently plays as a defensive midfielder for Spanish club Sevilla and the French national team, has been approached by Arsenal F.C., though the London team is trying to talk Sevilla down from its £35 million release clause for Nzonzi.

The problem for Arsenal is that they’ve already spent £70 million this summer on five players. The one advantage The Gunners have is that Nzonzi has already played for current Arsenal manager Unai Emery at Sevilla. However, the player is also being courted by A.S. Roma as a potential replacement for Radja Nainggolan. Barcelona F.C. is also said to be interested.

There are also rumors that current Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey may leave the club since he hasn’t signed an extension to his current contract, which expires next summer. It has also been suggested that Chelsea F.C. is preparing a £30 million bid for the player.
