The dream match between John Cena and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34 didn't exactly go as many expected.

Before the "Show of Shows", Cena spent several weeks calling out The Undertaker, who hadn't competed in a match since his WrestleMania 33 loss to Roman Reigns one year earlier.

But The Phenom finally answered Cena's challenge on the day of WrestleMania 34. He soundly defeated the 16-time World Champion, needing just 2:45 to pick up the pinfall victory.

The match was a stark contrast to Undertaker's bout with Reigns. The latter was a No Holds Barred match that lasted a whopping 23 minutes, which Reigns dominated from start to finish.

In the match with Reigns, Undertaker was fighting through a hip injury (he later underwent hip replacement surgery). But his match with Cena was a short and very sweet victory.

That said, The Undertaker admitted in a recent interview on the Victory Over Injury Podcast (h/t James Sullivan of Sportskeeda), that he was disappointed in the bout with Cena because of the short length, having worked extensively to be ready for the match.

"I was working with Cena, over in like four or five minutes," Undertaker explained. "I was like, 'You gotta be kidding me?!' Because I trained harder than I had ever…I train hard as it is, to get ready for Mania. But I had an extra, I had to be redeeming myself. If I’m gonna do this I’m gonna redeem myself to the point where that (WrestleMania 33) was just a flash and a bad memory. And then we go out in four minutes. Vince thought it was hilarious!"

A victory for The Undertaker felt obvious during the WrestleMania buildup, but given the high anticipation of the match, countless people certainly did not expect it to be a squash.

At any rate, The Undertaker picked up the win over another WWE legend to move his WrestleMania record to 24-2. It would be his final WrestleMania match in front of a live crowd, as his WrestleMania 36 bout with AJ Styles was a cinematic boneyard match.

The Squash Victory Made Some Sense

It's easy to understand why The Undertaker was disappointed in the short match length. But the squash victory also made him look like his usual dominant self following the match with Reigns, which Undertaker was vocally disappointed with. At the end of the day, the WWE chairman always makes the final call, and Undertaker understood that.
