Don't let the fact that Jey Uso going up against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship is a sign that the Samoan family steeped in rich tradition is, all of a sudden, not getting along. In fact, it might be wise to expect a significant swerve at some point.

Jey Uso is now the No. 1 contender for Reigns' Universal Championship and will battle his cousin at Clash of Champions later this month. Storylines on SmackDown are likely going to suggest there's a rift in the family and that Roman might expect Jey to take a back seat or that there will be underlying tones hinting that Reigns doesn't take his cousin all that seriously as a contender. It would make sense considering Jey Uso was not in the cards for a title shot just over a week ago.

But, the real story what might be what happens at, or right after Clash of Champions. As a heel, while Reigns works with Paul Heyman to keep what he feels is rightfully his, Reigns may need allies. All good heels usually do. And, who better to have your back than your family?

The logical storyline arc here is that the Usos join Reigns, especially when Jimmy returns from injury. As a trio backed with the most devious manager acting as special council, this is a group that could run the blue brand. A bloodline faction of real-life cousins running roughshod over SmackDown has real appeal to it and would give Heyman endless material for which to use for some extremely memorable promos to end 2020.

Is This The Right Play?

Should WWE be toying with this decision behind the scenes, we'd be all for it. The Usos are arguably at their best when they are confident in everything they do. With Reigns as their leader and the trio working together, there's no reason to assume confidence wouldn't ooze out of every pour.

And for Reigns, turning the Usos heel would make him an even bigger bad guy, which is clearly what he's going for right now.

Finally, along the way, as Heyman talks about the great Samoan legacy that follows all three competitors, plus their history as some of the most decorated competitors in WWE, there's no better person to get all three over as mega heels in a major way.
