After an amazing final round of 64, Tiger Woods fell just short of winning this year's PGA Championship. As a result, no one is talking about the winner — 28-year-old Brooks Koepka — they're all talking about the former best player in the world.

Woods walked into Sunday's round just a few shots back of the leader. He demeanor suggested confidence with his shades and a backward hat. It was unlike Tiger but it showed he seemed relaxed and comfortable in his game. Most, however, couldn't have expected what would come just hours later.

As the day wore on, and even though he'd missed fairway after fairway, Tiger was squarely in the tournament and had a chance. By the ninth hole, things got interesting.

After pulling another tee shot, Tiger was faced with a wicked second shot that required a massive hook on his part. Not only did he make the shot, he did it with a massive gallery on his right and left, backing up almost all the way to the hole. That gallery followed him all day. It was like the scene of an outdoor festival with the thousands of people watching his every move.

Tiger parred holes No. 10 and No. 11 and by hole No. 12, he was set to turn up the volume. Until hole 17, people thought he actually had a chance to win his 15th Major Championship and erase the ideas that a year ago, this time, he was ailing with consistent back issues and an ever-changing swing. By hole No. 17, it was officially over, but it didn't matter. The tournament was memorable and not because of who won, but who almost did.

People would have loved to see Tiger win the entire tournament. In fact, no one was talking about Koepka — the winner — nor Adam Scott, who came in third. All anyone could talk about was the Tiger Woods show.

He had a massive crowd, put on an amazing display and if not for a few mistakes, could have, and perhaps should have, won.

Tiger is now ranked higher in golf than he's been since 2014: he's 26th in the world. Perhaps more interesting is the fact that few people will doubt him any longer. On the biggest stage with the toughest field of competitors, Woods put on a display that will go down in history and be considered the start of what could be his next major title win.

Congratulations go out to Brooks Koepka. He deserved to win and played a great tournament — not that anyone noticed.
