Unlike head coach Todd Bowles, the New York Jets GM, Mike Maccagnan's job is safe for the time being.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, Maccagnan isn't going to be fired for the Jets poor season. He also states that while Maccagnan isn't going anywhere, that may not be the same for Bowles.

The Jets have a record of 3-7 this season so far. They're also coming off of a very embarrassing loss against the Buffalo Bills by a score of 41 to 10. Which is why everyone is starting to point the finger at Bowles for the disappointing season.

It has been rumored around the league that Maccagnan's long-term plan has been to compete for the playoffs next season. He has told ownership of his plan for a while now, and they believe the roster right now has fallen short of expectations.

The Jets have their franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold. They will also have over $100 million in cap space this off-season to go along with the high draft picks they will also have.

Maccagnan will need to supply his quarterback with tools that will put him in a scenario to succeed. That includes upgrading their offensive line so Darnold won't constantly be running for his life.

The Jets also need to make upgrades at the wide receiver position. Currently, the Jets don't have a reliable number one receiver that Darnold can always rely on to make big plays for him.

Maccagnan will also need to decide whether or not Bowles is the right coach to led this team back to the playoffs. The Jets have never made the playoffs while under Bowels. It has also been reported that ownership is not happy with the way Bowles has been coaching the team.

However, Bowles doesn't deserve all the blame for their record this season. Maccagnan had a big amount of salary cap last off-season to improve the team with, and he failed to do so.

Which likely means if Bowles is let go at the end of this season, Maccagnan will be given a very short leash next season. So, if the Jets fail to be successful next season, it's all but a given that Maccagnan will be on his way out as well.
