After losing their seventh straight game to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the disappointing Jacksonville Jaguars began to make some big-time changes as they finish out these final five games.

On Monday, head coach Doug Marrone fired offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. After that, it was announced that struggling quarterback Blake Bortles will take a seat on the bench this sunday, with backup Cody Kessler starting against the Indianapolis Colts.

Jaguars team president of football operations Tom Coughlin certainly couldn't have expected this type of season. The Jaguars reached the AFC Championship game last season and started out 2018 3-1. The future looked bright for a franchise that had struggled for much of the past decade.

But as Coughlin oversees a team that's destined to finish last in the AFC South, the former Super Bowl-winning head coach is promising more changes in the offseason.

"I'll put the gloves on with anybody that wants to talk about what -- let's face it, our numbers are down all over the place," he said on 1010 XL radio, via Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "Our sacks are way down...the way that we behave on the field is ridiculous, some of the penalties. So there's a lot of things that are going to get addressed, and are being addressed."

One of those changes will surely happen behind center, assuming the Jaguars realize that Blake Bortles is not the answer at quarterback. He's in his fifth season and has yet to show that he can lead this team. The Jaguars may have extended Bortles in the offseason for $54 million, but that does't mean they'll hang onto him.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network recently reported that head coach Doug Marrone is safe for 2019, so that's one potential Coughlin change that could be ruled out.

What This Means

Given the wealth of talent the Jaguars possess, finishing a season this poorly is completely unacceptable. It should relieve fans in that Coughlin knows he has to make some big-time changes, rather than simply hope for the best in 2019.

Getting a new quarterback and better playmaking wide receivers should top Coughlin's offseason list. Plain and simple.
