Tomasso Ciampa's neck issues have apparently worsened, meaning he will have to undergo surgery soon and likely relinquish the NXT Title.
A few weeks ago, four of NXT's top Superstars were called up to the main roster pretty much unannounced. Johnny Gargano, Tomasso Ciampa, Aleister Black, and Ricochet. While we are all for that quartet being showcased and revealed to the entire WWE Universe, we are only on board if they are utilized correctly.
For some reason, WWE has decided to pair Black and Ricochet up and have them join the tag team division. Not the worst idea in the world as it turns out the duo works extremely well together. What's more worrying is that Gargano and Ciampa have already disappeared. However, it turns out that there might well be good reason for that. Ciampa is working through a pretty serious injury.
There have been murmurings for a while that the NXT Champion is suffering with neck issues. Rumor has it that he and WWE agreed to try and make it beyond WrestleMania weekend before getting it seen to. That way, he could drop the NXT Title at NXT TakeOver: New York. Sadly, the latest from Wrestling Observer Radio reports that the issue has worsened and Ciampa's surgery has had to be moved up.
WOR has reported that the surgery will take place sometime this week and could result in Ciampa being out of action for more than a year. As injuries go, the timing could not have been much worse for the Blackheart of NXT. Not only will this bring an end to a main roster run that has only just begun, but he will also have to relinquish the NXT Championship. That could happen as soon as tonight's episode of the show.
It was assumed that Ciampa would defend his NXT Title against Gargano at TakeOver: New York. It's a real shame that we won't get to see what has been one of the greatest rivalries of the modern era come to a natural end. Ciampa won't be gone forever, though. When he returns, Gargano will hopefully be an established name on either Raw or SmackDown Live. Then, the two can show the biggest crowds possible what they do best.
