Noting AEW took a financial bath on its last two pay-per-views, President Tony Khan has plans for AEW's financial future and is thinking WCW big.

AEW President and CEO Tony Khan recently spoke with Decider and said AEW will not be going in a similar direction to WWE in terms of how they build their schedule for tv, live events and pay-per-views. Instead of being a brand that will move all around and hold multiple events per week, producing several live tv shows, AEW will focus on just one weekly, two-hour show for TNT, by design.

Khan explained, "We're basing the company to be way more wrestler-friendly and in terms of the scheduling." Saying AEW will not have constant touring, they will instead focus on the really big events, the pay-per-views and streaming specials." This should help lower production costs, make the company more attractive to stars who don't want to be on the road all the time and really make their tv show special.

Khan did confirm in that interview that AEW took a financial bath on Fyter Fest and Fight for the Fallen which were both aired for free on B/R Live, but he predicted big revenues from here on in. Noting that the new tv show will be a big draw towards their future earnings and All Out is a highly anticipated event, Khan said, "I was willing to do it as a company because I believed in our brand of wrestling." He wants to get AEW to the level of WCW.

Khan said not since WCW has there been a "legitimate other company [besides WWE] presenting weekly, high-quality wrestling, and never before was HD available."

What This Means

Considering WCW's demise, it might not be best to aim to make AEW the next WCW but what Khan is saying makes sense if you don't take it out context.

For all of WCW's faults, they did a lot of good things. They were a legitimate wrestling company with a lighter schedule for the talent, they gave away seats to fans and cut costs, but turned things around and drew big money at one point. For 83 weeks they beat WWE in the ratings.
