WWE has reportedly not ruled out the possibility of Triple H taking on Batista at this year's WrestleMania.

There was a time in WWE's history when Vince McMahon wasn't too keen on wrestlers over 40 competing on his shows. The chairman forced Randy Savage into a commentary position, a move that eventually saw Macho Man jump ship to WCW. WWE then proceeded to mock WCW for using Savage and other older wrestlers like Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

Nowadays, Mr. McMahon has almost gone too far the other way. While letting wrestlers who are capable of doing so compete until they're well past 40, seemingly forcing some others to do so has made for some downright terrible matches. One older wrestler who fans are keen to see make a return is Batista, and The Animal might well show his face again sooner rather than later.

RUMOR: BATISTA RECENTLY MET WITH WWE TO DISCUSS A NEW CONTRACT

It's rumored that the original plan was to have Batista take on Triple H at WrestleMania 35. However, The Game tearing his pec at last year's Crown Jewel derailed that vision. Or did it? According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that match is still being considered by WWE. Considering the timeline for Triple H's recovery, it is possible, but there would likely be no physicality between the two until the match itself.

Batista has been back in wrestling news a lot this week. The former WWE Champion met up with Chris Jericho, probably to talk AEW. If that is the case, the most recent reports claim that he turned down what the fledgling company offered up. That might well be so he can have one more run with WWE as it has also been reported that he met up with his former employers last week.

The tease for a Batista/Triple H match began during SmackDown's 1000th episode. Judging by the fan reaction to the wrestler turned movie star, the WWE Universe is very much on board with that. We would love to see Batista return for one more run with WWE. His last return in 2014 came at the wrong time and fans reacted poorly. It would be a shame if that was the last thing we ever see Batista do as a WWE Superstar.
