The Undertaker and Goldberg clashed for the very first time in their legendary careers at the Super ShowDown, but the match is remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Rust was on display, as we all expected. Goldberg hadn't wrestled in over two years, while Undertaker competed in his first match since the November Crown Jewel pay-per-view in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Not only that, but there were a handful of notable botches throughout the match. One instance saw Goldberg try to execute a Tombstone Piledriver, but he wound up dropping Undertaker on top of himself. Goldberg also suffered a concussion after ramming headfirst into a ring post.

The match mercilessly ended in short time, with Undertaker scoring a pinfall victory. Obviously, a large portion of the WWE Universe and wrestling pundits were quite disgruntled with the performance between the two icons.

But in an interview with Alex McCarthy of TalkSport.com, Triple H became the latest wrestling legend to defend both Undertaker and Goldberg over their mistake-filled match.

Sometimes you put the veteran in there with the younger guy but sometimes you’re just holding him back and it doesn’t always work out.

"People can say what they want to say about Saudi Arabia or the match between Undertaker and Goldberg," Triple H said. "Listen, my hats off to both of them, it was a bad situation. I can attest to it that it was about 105 degrees and 100 percent humidity at ringside and even Randy [Orton] and I, when we were talking about it afterward, there were moments where I wanted to change gears but I just cannot!..And you put pressure on yourself and everything on top of that, so it’s a lot."

Kane, Chris Jericho and Ric Flair have also come to the defense of Goldberg and Undertaker over their match performance. Roman Reigns did the same, calling it "a tough situation" for the superstars - given how hot it was and the fact that both superstars only wrestle on a part-time basis.

It was reported that Goldberg and Undertaker engaged in a backstage confrontation after the match , with the two "accusing the other of being unsafe." At any rate, the two superstars were able to put the performance behind them - and both superstars wound up redeeming themselves with better matches in short time.

Undertaker teamed up with Reigns to defeat Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules, while Goldberg returned at SummerSlam to defeat Dolph Ziggler with relative ease.

What This Means

At the end of the day, Goldberg and Undertaker don't deserve all the blame for the match. It was a questionable decision by WWE to place a pair of part-time superstars in the main event, and there clearly wasn't enough preparation for this match. Goldberg and Undertaker went out there for our entertainment, and they deserve credit for doing their very best - no matter how disappointing the match was.
