It's been over seven years since CM Punk left the WWE, and the rumors of a possible reunion haven't faded away in the slightest.

And judging by recent comments from Triple H, it sounds like the door for a possible return is wide open. That is, if CM Punk wants to walk through it.

During an appearance on Pardon My Take (h/t Fightful.com), Triple H revealed that he actually spoke with CM Punk not too long ago. And if the former WWE Champion is interested in a second go with the company, it's up to him to initiate the conversation.

"Last time I talked to (Punk)? A year and a half, a year and three quarters ago," Triple H explained. "A funny thing that people will constantly will say when his return is, but in some way, that has to be what he wants. People go, 'make the call.' Who says if we make the call that he wants to answer? What if we make the call and he's like, 'I'm not interested in doing that anymore.' Maybe he's just done with it. Those are conversations that only those people can directly answer. If he wants to do it, we would get word and have those conversations or he would make a call. There has to be a desire there to do something like that. This business is too all in to just go, 'Ehhhh, alright, I'll do it.'"

In his AEW Dynamite debut, Paul Wight (Big Show in WWE) revealed that the company had signed a "Hall of Fame worthy talent" who would appear at the Revolution pay-per-view.

Many fans naturally speculated that it would be CM Punk, but he was quick to shut down the speculation on Twitter. The "Hall of Fame worthy talent" turned out to be Christian Cage.

Before the Jan. 27, 2014 episode of Monday Night Raw aired, CM Punk reportedly told Vince McMahon and Triple H that he was heading home. He never returned to WWE television and was officially fired in June.

CM Punk later explained that a series of injuries let to his decision for leaving WWE. He pieced together a Hall of Fame resume, winning World Championships (two WWE, three World Heavyweight) and two Money in the Bank ladder matches (2008 and 2009).

It's Up To CM Punk

In December 2019, Stephanie McMahon expressed an interest in working again with CM Punk and his wife, AJ Lee. This came after CM Punk stated that it would "have to be a very big bag" for him to return to WWE (on a Reddit AMA). Stephanie and Triple H are open to bringing back Lee and Punk, but only time will tell if it actually happens.
