Triple H has stated that WWE's decision to move NXT TakeOver from the Saturday to the Sunday of WrestleMania weekend was not influenced by the G1 Supercard.

For almost as long as pro wrestling has been around, Madison Square Garden has been affiliated with WWE and the McMahon family. Bruno Sammartino was a must-see attraction when he main evented MSG almost 200 times, most of those matches with the WWE Championship around his waist.

Sammartino was just the beginning of WWE's legacy at MSG. Countless massive moments have taken place there, and the promotion still returns to the iconic arena twice a year. However, gone are the days when PPVs and even televised WWE shows would take place there. WWE now favors the much more modern Barclays Center in Brooklyn when it comes to that kind of thing in New York.

In fact, that's where NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn and this year's Hall Of Fame ceremony will take place during WrestleMania weekend. With that, New Japan and Ring Of Honor saw an opportunity. The two promotions decided to team up for a super show, the G1 Supercard, and stage that show in MSG. WWE reportedly didn't take the news that rival promotions would be putting on a show in its spiritual home all that well.

WWE reacted by moving NXT TakeOver from its regular Saturday night slot to Friday night instead. However, Triple H claimed on a recent conference call that it wasn't a reaction to New Japan and ROH's MSG show at all. "It's just a better business and venue split for us. It really was nothing more - everybody reads into everything and it really was nothing more than that," The Game explained.

In the transcription of the call, courtesy of Wrestling Inc, it was noted that Triple H also said WWE didn't want to make fans choose between TakeOver and attending the Hall Of Fame ceremony. That doesn't make a lot of sense as both shows are happening in the same building, so couldn't have possibly taken place at the same time. We still believe that TakeOver was moved so that it doesn't clash with the MSG show, no matter what The Cerebral Assassin says.
