Tyson Chandler has revealed that he also had the option of joining the Golden State Warriors ahead of his decision to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The veteran center seems to have already changed the Lakers' fortunes and they haven't lost a single game since signing him.

And, according to Los Angeles Times reporter Tania Ganguli, there were five teams interested in bringing the player in once it was clear the Phoenix Suns were going to buy him out of his contract.

"Tyson Chandler said there were 5 teams in the mix for his next landing spot and he narrowed it to two: Lakers and the Warriors," Ganguli tweeted. "Ultimately says he could only see himself in a Laker uniform."

The Warriors are the NBA's defending champions and would appeal to just about everyone. However, Chandler's role would have likely been less important, given the way Steve Kerr operates.

Draymond Green functions as the center in Golden State's small-ball lineup and traditional centers are made to suffer as a result.

The Lakers, meanwhile, continue to start summer acquisition JaVale McGee but the ex-Warriors big man only plays 25.8 minutes a game.

Chandler is playing 22.7 minutes per game for the Lakers and has enjoyed a resurgent spell under Luke Walton as the team's backup center.

He's only averaging 3.o points per contest but there are many intangibles which leave him crucial to Walton's plans. The 36-year-old has been hauling 8.3 boards nightly while blocking 1.3 shots in his first three games for the Lakers, who were victorious over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.

"He makes us much more consistent," Walton told The Athletic regarding Chandler. "We were on our way there but getting someone of Tyson's caliber both on and off the floor really helps."

He's huge," LeBron James declared. "We knew we had a spot that needed some reassurance. And for us to be able to get Tyson in the fashion that we got him and to be able to just implement him in right away and the impact that he's made in what, three games? ... He's great."

Chandler, in turn, seems to relish the opportunity alongside James but is more focused on bringing another title to L.A.

"We both want exactly the same thing," he says. "and that’s to turn this historic franchise that's won throughout the years and get it back to those type of days."

What This Means

If the report is to be believed, Chandler clearly values being a key part of a new process over a potentially easy route to a ring.

The veteran center knows what it takes to get to that pedestal, having played a huge role in the Dallas Mavericks' run to the title in 2011; his experience could be vital for Los Angeles.
