WWE has announced the matchups for the opening round of the upcoming UK Championship Tournament, which will is highlighted by a showdown between 205 Live talents in Jack Gallagher and Drew Gulak.

The other matchups will see Amir Jordan vs. Zack Gibson, Jordan Devlin vs. Tyson T-Bone, Tucker vs. Joe Coffey, Travis Banks vs. El Ligero, Dave Mastiff vs. Kenny Williams, Ashton Smith vs. Joseph Connors and James Drake vs. Flash Morgan Webster.

Gulak and Gallagher are the most notable names on the roster, so it's surprising that they're being pitted against each other in Round 1. It sounds like they'll face off on 205 Live, while the other matches will happen June 8-10 at the Download Festival for NXT.

The winner of the tournament will compete against Pete Dunne on June 19. The venue is at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Dunne defeated Tyler Bate on May 20 of last year at NXT TakeOver: Chicago. His championship reign recently surpassed a full calendar year.

The WWE UK Championship was introduced in Dec. 2016. A 16-man tournament took place to crown the inaugural winner, which was won by Bate in Blackpool, England. He held onto the title for 125 days before losing it to Dunne a year ago.

Gallagher and Gulak are by far the two biggest superstars competing on the 205 Live brand, so it would be somewhat surprising if neither of them went on to win the tournament.

The WWE UK Championship hasn't received a whole lot of publicity since being created over a year ago, but this tournament to determine the No. 1 contender should shed more light on it.

Will Dunne continue his lengthy title reign, or will another superstar finally put an end to it? We'll find out in the coming weeks as the tournament prepares for kickoff.
