With The Undertaker retired from professional wrestling, it means he'll never get the opportunity to work with the heel version of Roman Reigns.

Reigns and The Undertaker had the one singles match back in 2017, the main event of WrestleMania 33. In what was supposed to be a "passing of the torch moment", Reigns soundly defeated The Undertaker via pinfall. He became just the second superstar (joining Brock Lesnar) to defeat the wrestling icon on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

At the time, WWE was trying to push Reigns as the top face of the company. However, the victory over The Undertaker didn't do much in helping Reigns' popularity with the fans, who continued to strongly boo and reject him. It would be another three years until WWE finally decided to turn Reigns heel, at SummerSlam 2020.

During an interview with Sports Illustrated, The Undertaker commended Reigns' work as a heel. The future WWE Hall of Fame inductee also admitted that he wishes he could work a program with the Universal Champion.

"I think he’s a great heel—coldhearted, calculated...Like I said, I’m really proud of him," Undertaker said. "I wish I had the gas in the tank to work a program with him now. It would definitely be something special."

The Undertaker and Reigns (then a face )would share the ring one last time at Exteme Rules 2019. They teamed up in a winning effort against Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre.

This was the final tag team match of The Undertaker's illustrious career, as he announced his plans to retire from professional wrestling one year later. At the end of Survivor Series 2020, WWE held The Undertaker's "Final Farewell" ceremony, where he officially retired.

Too Late For It

The Undertaker hasn't given any hints that he's keen on coming out of retirement, so it's safe to say that we'll never see him go up against the heel version of Reigns. However, fans have been fortunate to already see the heel Roman Reigns go up against other top stars like Daniel Bryan and Edge. It also sounds like John Cena will be his SummerSlam 2021 opponent, so there's no need to worry. WWE will keep finding ways to maximize Reigns' growth and rise to stardom as a heel.
