Vader recently underwent open-heart surgery, and while it was successful, he's not out of the woods yet.

There should never have been any doubt that Vader is one of the toughest human beings that has ever lived. On the off chance that anybody thought differently, those feelings should be put to rest after today, as the wrestling legend has undergone open heart surgery, and is expected to live to talk about it. This was the latest in a series of health concerns that have been plaguing him throughout the last several years.

Vader’s son, Jesse White, tweeted out Monday evening that his father’s operation was a success. He did, however, also state that the situation was worse than what was expected. This means, unfortunately, that the heavyweight isn’t out of the woods quite yet, and has a long road to recovery ahead of him. Vader announced in 2016 that he had congestive heart failure and would likely be dead within two years, so this can be taken as a positive outlook, though it is too soon to be sure.

After receiving the initial news that he had a short time to live, he decided that he was going to continue to compete, and if the diagnosis was correct, that he would like to die in the ring.

Vader, also known as Leon White, started out as a professional football player with the Los Angeles Rams before moving on to wrestling several years later. He joined the AWA for a time in 1985, and quickly gained a reputation for being extremely athletic and agile for a man his size. He would become a multiple time champion all over the world, though the strain eventually became too much for his heart.

Vader is a legendary figure in sports entertainment who’s wealth of accomplishments have earned him a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame, though his induction has yet to happen. He has never been one to stay stationary for very long and wrestled into his sixties. In one of his final appearances, Leon passed out after being dropped on his head during a match. While this wasn’t believed to be connected to his heart condition, it still serves as a sign that he may have overstayed his welcome in the industry. Hopefully, after all is said and done, he can fully recover to spend the rest of his days enjoying retirement.
