Heath Slater revealed on social media this week that Vince McMahon has promised him 2019 will be his year.
There are some Superstars in WWE with really long tenures that get overlooked all too often. Zack Ryder is one of those Superstars. You'd be forgiven for forgetting that Ryder was even still employed by WWE during 2018. Long Island Iced Z appeared on just one episode of Raw for the entire 12 months. The final episode earlier this week on New Year's Eve.
Another man who falls into the same category as Ryder is Heath Slater. As of this past December, Slater has been under contract with WWE for 12 years. That's an unbroken 12 years too. He didn't go to Impact Wrestling for a couple of years or dipped out to try his luck on the indies. His loyalty has been unwavering and in all honesty, he hasn't been shown the recognition he deserves for that loyalty by WWE.
If the former Tag Team Champion's Twitter feed is anything to go by, that is all about to change in 2019. Slater recently posted a photo of himself shaking hands with Vince McMahon. In the caption, Slater has wished his followers a Happy New Year and also revealed that the boss told him 2019 is going to be his year.
The end of 2018 wasn't exactly bad for Slater. The former 3MB leader found himself at the center of the most important angle on Raw for a couple of weeks. That's because Baron Corbin fired his tag team partner Rhyno and made him a referee. The then-acting GM made Slater his personal official and forced him to do his bidding. Since then, he has continued to appear on Raw each and every week.
While being a WWE Superstar for 12 straight years is nothing to be sniffed at, it can't have been easy to remain loyal at certain points for Slater. He has witnessed both of his former 3MB tag team partners leave the company only to come back and become World Champions. Who knows, perhaps a World Title run is what Mr. McMahon has planned for Slater in 2019. Weirder things have happened. At least we think they have.
