Unexpected Name Responsible For Raw's Gauntlet Match

Raw's unexpectedly entertaining Gauntlet Match was actually the idea of Vince McMahon.

On this past Monday Night’s episode of Raw, the WWE did something completely out of left field, as they switched up the repetitive and formulaic structure to their show by giving us a 7-man gauntlet match, one that lasted the first 2 hours of the program and culminated with a Braun Strowman victory. So who was responsible for this sudden change in formula, which was so incredibly successful? The answer might surprise you, as it was none other than Vince McMahon himself.

According to PWInsider, McMahon came up with the match idea out of nowhere, and it even shocked the creative team around him, as he isn’t usually very high on this kind of thing. The numbers for Raw’s first two hours were definitely up, which is a pleasant change and one that could encourage McMahon and the rest of the creative team to look to change things up on a weekly basis.

If you didn’t see the match, it began with Seth Rollins lasting an incredible 65 minutes as he dispatched of both Roman Reigns and John Cena before he eventually fell to Elias. As the match wore on, it was Braun Strowman who annihilated The Miz to end the night's proceedings.

The rest of the rivalries heading into Elimination Chamber have had incredibly lackluster builds as it is, so focusing their efforts on this match on Raw, as well as the final hour being used to build to the first ever Women’s Elimination Chamber, and it was a very successful way to promote the pay-per-view and present a go home show.
