Pete Dunne's iconic 685-day reign as WWE United Kingdom Champion has come to an end at the hands of WALTER at NXT TakeOver: New York.

For the most part, lengthy title reigns in WWE are a thing of the past. We no longer see Superstars hold championships for years at a time. It's actually more likely to see title reigns that literally last just minutes. We have seen that happen a number of times since the introduction of Money In The Bank contracts.

That's why Pete Dunne's run as WWE United Kingdom Champion has caught the attention of so many. Heading into his match with WALTER, The Bruiserweight had been UK Champion for a staggering 685 days. However, if he was going to make it to the 700-day mark and beyond, he would have to overcome his biggest challenge yet, quite literally.

It hasn't taken long for WALTER to ascend the ranks since arriving in NXT UK, getting this title shot less than three months after first showing his face. It turns out the decision to make him number one contender was not a misguided one as the Austrian is now your new UK Champion. WALTER's victory did not come easy though, as you might imagine.

The pair's showdown at TakeOver: New York was one of the most physical altercations you could ever hope to see in professional wrestling. You can't fake the welts and marks that covered both men's bodies by the end of the match. It was impossible to know what exactly would stop one of these Superstars from being covered for a three count. Turns out a powerbomb to Dunne from the top rope that saw WALTER literally launch him across the ring did the trick.

That means WALTER is now the third ever WWE UK Champion. Pretty impressive considering the title has now been around for well over two years. We can't imagine a fourth holder will be coming along any time soon either. WALTER is extremely dominant and will likely fend off all comers in the coming months. Surpassing the 685 days Dunne tallied up will be something else entirely, though.
