West Bromwich Albion has a new mascot for the new season, and it might be the weirdest one we have ever seen.

While the Premier League doesn't start back up again until this Friday, the new Championship season kicked off this past weekend. Even though the league is England's second tier, it provides some of the most entertaining soccer in Europe and is almost always unpredictable when it comes to who will be getting promoted and relegated from the division.

The teams coming down from the Premier League are often the ones with the most pressure on them to do well, however, two out of three of them didn't get off to the best start in the first round of games. While Swansea picked up a win against Sheffield United, Stoke City lost on the road versus Leeds United, and West Bromwich Albion were beaten 2-1 at home by Bolton Wanderers.

West Brom will likely be wondering where it all went wrong, especially since the side had a brand new mascot cheering them on from the sidelines. Perhaps its presence was more baffling than encouraging though since it was a boiler with legs. No, unfortunately, we're not joking, and you can check out a photo of the newest addition to the club above.

You'll be pleased to hear, if you're a West Brom fan at least, that Boiler Man's presence has not simply happened because the powers that be at The Hawthorns have gone mad. He is actually part of a deal struck between the club and its new shirt sponsor, Ideal Boilers. In even better news, Boiler Man has not replaced the club's original mascot, Baggie Bird, he is merely there as a side act to the stalwart.

With so many soccers teams in the UK, there are also going to be some weird and wonderful mascots. Boiler Man might be the new benchmark to beat though. That benchmark was previously set by Partick Thistle's bizarre mascot, Kingsley. Kingsley looks sort of like the sun, but with a haunting face drawn on it. He was designed by a Turner Prize-winning artist and it shows.
