After nearly two months of playing the waiting game, the Minnesota Timberwolves finally found the right trade package - and it came from the up-and-coming Philadelphia 76ers.

On Saturday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the 76ers acquired Butler, Justin Patton and a second-round from Minnesota in exchange for Dario Saric and Robert Covington.

Wojnarowski also added that the 76ers intend to give Butler a contract extension after this season, which basically ensures he'll spend the rest of his prime years in the City of Brotherly Love.

Finally, the 76ers found a new superstar to complement the dynamic duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Philly struck out on winning the LeBron James sweepstakes in the offseason, but patience paid off for general manager Elton Brand.

He finally got a new superstar, without having to deal any of his two big stars or promising point guard Markelle Fultz. Now, the 76ers are better equipped to challenge the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics for the Eastern Conference crown.

The 76ers already own the league's best young core in the NBA, and they finally got a veteran superstar to complement it. In Butler, Philadelphia is adding a top-15 player - renowned for his excellent two-way play.

A four-time All-Star, Butler has been named to the NBA All-Defensive second team four times in his career now. He and Embiid will be a nightmare defensive matchup for other teams to go against.

Butler will fix an offense that has underachieved at times throughout the season. In 10 game appearances with Minny, Butler averaged 21.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

And oh, Butler should play a hand in helping the 76ers fix their horrible shooting. Simmons has yet to make a three-pointer in his career, while Fultz continues to be held back from his awful shooting.

Philly ranks 21st in three-point shooting at 33.6 percent and 22nd in field goal shooting percentage at 44.4 percent. Well, Butler brings a 47.1 field goal percentag eover to Philadelphia.

That gives head coach Brett Brown the chance to build his offense more around Butler's outside shooting, and Simmons can be better used around the basket - where he flourishes most.

Many considered the 76ers a tier below the Boston Celtics entering this season, having been embarrassed in just five games during the second round of the playoffs jut months ago.

But adding a world class defender and do-it-all player in Butler puts Philadelphia right back in the mix with Boston. The Celtics sit at a mere 7-5 on the season, and only their league-leading defense is keeping this team in the mix right now. The 76ers match up way better against Brad Stevens' team now, and the Toronto Raptors should fear Philly more than the C's at this time.

This was the right time for the 76ers to make the big move. Embiid is only 24, Simmons 22 and Fultz 20. Philadelphia was loaded in cap space and simply had to start getting aggressive. Well, adding Butler may be the final piece that takes them to championship contention now.

Assuming they do get that extension done with Butler, the 76ers will be loaded up with the most dynamic trio in the Eastern Conference for years to come. It's unknown if the Raptors will even keep Kawhi Leonard after this season. All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry is 33 next year. The Raptors are in it to win it now, not in five years.

The Celtics may be loaded with Kyrie Irving, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. But Al Horford will be expensive to re-sign after next year. Gordon Hayward hasn't fit in the Boston system yet. Marcus Morris and Terry Rozier figure to leave for bigger pay days in free agency. The Boston depth will take a huge hit over the next two years.

So in short, there is no team in the Eastern Conference built to win over the long run than the 76ers now. Embiid and Simmons will be two perennial MVP candidates down the road, and now they finally have the seasoned and complete veteran to do it all. With no big flaws in Butler's game, he'll take Philadelphia to another level from here on out.

It's been a frustrating "Process" for the 76ers, but they finally hit the jackpot with Simmons and Embiid. Now, they have Jimmy Butler to boost this team's quest in winning an NBA Championship.

The East is no longer about the Raptors and the Celtics. It's simply about the 76ers making the move that will put them in the Eastern Conference driver's seat for many years.
