It's only a matter of when Bray Wyatt faces Universal Champion Roman Reigns again, not if.

One week after defeating Braun Strowman at SummerSlam to become the new Universal Champion, Wyatt was forced to defend it against Reigns and the Monster Among Men in a No Holds Barred triple threat match at Payback.

Reigns didn't officially sign the match contract until after Wyatt and Strowman destroyed the ring following a suplex off the top ropes. The Big Dog, with Paul Heyman at his side, approached the ring and scored the easy pinfall on Strowman to reclaim the Universal title.

Having lost like that, there's simply no way Wyatt won't eventually clash with Reigns for the title. At some point, The Fiend will get his opportunity for revenge.

That feud appears to be on hold for now, however. Apparently, the plan is for these two to have a marquee match down the road. Reigns is slated to defend the Universal title against his cousin, Jey Uso, at the Sept. 27 Clash of Champions pay-per-view.

So Reigns is feuding with Uso. That leaves Wyatt in no man's land for the time being. So which superstars should he feud with on the road to an eventual showdown with Reigns?

Let's take a look at the best options.

AJ Styles

Wyatt has slowly made the transition to babyface, and his program with Strowman is likely done. So when it comes to selecting Wyatt's future opponents, WWE will have to pit him against other heels on SmackDown.

Enter AJ Styles.

The Phenomenal One has been used as the primary mid-card heel on SmackDown Live. He is currently feuding with Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, although it looks like Sami Zayn is about to enter that picture.

Styles has always been instrumental in helping enhance the push of other main event superstars (See Reigns, Seth Rollins, Shinsuke Nakamura, Daniel Bryan and others). So why not pit him in a feud here with The Fiend?

Like Wyatt, Styles is one of WWE's elite in-ring performers and microphone workers. The promos between these two would be top-notch, and the matches would be even better.

Interestingly, Styles and Wyatt have yet to face off in a televised one-on-one match. So why not start this feud now, before The Fiend eventually meets Reigns? Who knows if WWE will have a more opportune time to run this feud, with the draft looming and Styles hinting at retirement in the future?

Styles would be a perfect warm up feud for Wyatt before he challenges Reigns.

King Corbin

King Corbin

King Corbin has proven to be a valuable heel in the mid-card division. Vince McMahon knows he can place this man in a feud against just about any babyface.

If WWE wants Wyatt to run through multiple heels before he faces off against Reigns, Corbin would be a worthwhile opponent. His brash wrestling persona would make for some entertaining segments against The Fiend, too.

One can argue that in some ways, WWE hasn't fully used King Corbin to the best of his ability. He may not be pushed in the main event scene any time soon, but they should at least place him in a feud with another marquee superstar like Wyatt.

This doesn't have to be a long-term feud by any means. If Reigns vs. Wyatt doesn't happen until, say, 2021, WWE will have plenty of time to use up. Wyatt will need multiple opponents, and King Corbin checks off just about every box.

Sheamus

The former WWE Champion will go down as one of the greatest heels of his era. No matter the opponent and program, Sheamus has made it work time and time again. He can simply work with anybody.

Much like Styles, Sheamus has frequently been used as an opponent for a main event superstar. It all started when he was promoted to the main roster in 2009 en route to dethroning John Cena as the WWE Champion.

Sheamus is currently in a feud with fan favourite Big E, who appears to be on the verge of his own massive singles push. When that program ends, WWE should shift Sheamus towards a rivalry with The Fiend.

Sheamus' merciless, ruthless and style of wresting would make him a very suitable and worthwhile opponent for The Fiend.

These two have very different styles when it comes to wrestling and cutting promos. That's why it would be so exciting to see them go toe-to-toe. And Sheamus could certainly help enhance Wyatt's push before he faces Reigns.
