Ronda Rousey 's promo on yesterday's episode of Monday Night Raw was interrupted by Bayley, who came out and challenged the Baddest Woman on the Planet to a championship match.

Rousey managed to successfully defend her championship, before women's Royal Rumble winner Becky Lynch came out to confront her. The two exchanged verbal jabs, and Lynch formally announced she would challenge Rousey for the Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania 35.

But WWE was forced to go a little off script during this entire Rousey segment. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), Bayley was directed to go out at the last minute to "save" Rousey's promo:

"You know they rushed [Bayley] out. Because you know they had all those inflatable dummies, those inflatable deals and she ran out before that.

So it was kinda like they sent her out to save the segment or whatever or maybe Ronda had gone too long and they just threw [Bayley] out there because Ronda kept pausing and everything like that. Whatever it was, Bayley was sent out. So there you go."

Rousey, despite portraying a babyface role, was heavily booed by a crowd that was largely supporting Becky Lynch. It was one of the worst receptions Rousey ever garnered from a crowd in her first year with the WWE, and you can tell she was visibly confused and frustrated by it.

So it made sense in having Bayley go out to put an end to the troubles for Rousey, and their match was quite successful, considering that they were apparently forced to play it out at the last minute.

WWE chairman Vince McMahon has had to find ways to cut promos like this before. In fact, he instructed Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman to walk out of a promo a couple of years ago, since the crowd was cheering heavily for the Beast Incarnate, who was playing a heel role.

Rousey still remains extremely popular among the WWE Universe, and Monday was a rare occasion in which the crowd wasn't behind her. We'll see how WWE plans this in the future, with a heel turn in Rousey certainly not out of the question now.

What This Means

In this instance, WWE smartly devised a plan to save Rousey before her promo got even worse. Bayley deserves plenty of credit for salvaging the entire segment by putting on a quality match.
