As the WWE approaches the Greatest Royal Rumble which is set for this Friday, April 27, 2018, in Saudi Arabia, most of the news has centered around which mystery WWE Superstars or returning legends might be part of the show. Prior to this, there was one particular news that flew somewhat under the radar. That was the news that WWE Superstar, Kane, was originally set to take part but was removed from the card. A recent report has speculated as to why.

Kane's real name is Glen Jacobs and he's running for a Republican nomination in Tennessee as the Mayor of Knox County. There is rumor that with Saudi Arabia being a show that cannot include women participating for WWE on the card, nor can female fans attend the event, WWE might receive a bit of blowback politically.

It is being reported by Cagesideseats.com that, "people [are] unhappy WWE is running an event their women’s roster can’t participate in, which female fans can’t attend without their husbands or fathers (progress in Saudi Arabia, but still archaic by the standards of most of the non-Muslim world). That’s without getting into other can’t-win Middle Eastern political arguments, or dealing with religious and racial stereotypes many have, rightly or wrongly, of the region." The report went on to say, "It’s also probably not a coincidence Kane was removed from the card during the run-up to an election where Glen Jacobs will compete for a Republican nomination in Tennessee."

With the speed in which this event came about, WWE has promoted the Greatest Royal Rumble rather quickly and they are marketing their involvement in Saudi Arabia but some have suggested not nearly as much as they might do for a show of this size and scale. The suggestion is that WWE is carefully treading the political landscape when it comes to their ten-year strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia, feeling out how this first event will go and learning where and how they might be ruffling feathers.

This isn't to say there's been any direct issue with Kane/Jacobs being part of the event but that his withdrawal was potentially more a maneuver to take the cautious approach in case potential voters took issue with WWE's partnership and his being on a potentially controversial card.

Kane is a veteran WWE Superstar his but absence will not make or break the event in any way for the company.
