On Tuesday, as SmackDown Live put together it's go-home show for SummerSlam, there was a bigger emphasis on storyline outside of the in-ring action, namely through video segments. That doesn't always work but SmackDown was able to pull it off, especially when it came to The Miz and Daniel Bryan.

Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Carmella would face off and try to sell the SmackDown Women's Championship Triple Threat match. That didn't go so well. The New Day and Bludgeons aren't giving fans much to look forward to and AJ Styles clashed with Samoa Joe before they destroy each other on Sunday.

Here are your winners and losers for SmackDown Live, August 14, 2018.

Winner: The Miz and Bryan

The Miz and Daniel Bryan video series was truly awesome on Tuesday. With the feud feeling somewhat rushed, there was no better way to relive the history of how both competitors got to this point than the three videos that walked fans through their story.

The main event for SmackDown Live may be AJ Styles versus Samoa Joe at SummerSlam, but there's no contending with the unique storyline and history of The Miz and Bryan finally meeting up after more than a year of waiting for this match to finally happen.

Loser: Bludgeon Brothers

via wwe.com

Another unnecessary Bludgeon Brothers segment, another squash finish and the WWE Universe knows nothing more or less about this team than they did before the program started. If the Bludgeons are going to be facing off in a big-time match at SummerSlam, why have them take out nobody's in segments that seem to make them appear less likely to outdo New Day when push really comes to shove?

These moments are not helping the team and it's made the New Day vs Bludgeons match one of the least anticipated from SmackDown Live's offerings.

Meanwhile, New Day took out Sanity in an actual match showing they have the stuff to become Tag Team Champions again. SAniTy meanwhile is starting to look like WWE has already overlooked them.

Winner: Styles vs Joe

Yes, in a way this feud feels rushed and it would have been nicer for a longer build but WWE did enough in a few short weeks to make the fans feel invested. The storyline with Style's wife was more about Joe getting under the skin of Styles and not meant to be takn literally so in that way, it's difficult to understand why Styles was so upset but it is what it is.

The match itself will be better than of the build leading up to it and that should make any subsequent rematches even that much more interesting.

Loser: Aiden English

It's clear English's time in WWE, at least as part of the Rusev Day dynamic is coming to an end. He was used almost exclusively on Tuesday to push the idea of the mixed tag match between Andrade Cien Almas and Zelina Vega vs. Rusev and Lana and in the process lost in a one-sided match.

Unfortunately for both Almas and Rusev, this match won't really showcase either guy all that well and it only slows down Almas' eventual rise to the top of the WWE. If he and Vega lose it only hurts them moving forward.

Winner: Carmella

via wwe.com

It would be unlikely to see Carmella lose her title this Sunday. That's because something is going to happen between Becky Lynch and Charlotte to rock their friendship boat. Lynch was given the rub on Tuesday but will likely lose on Sunday and Carmella is just too good a heel right now to remove the belt from around her waist.

This segment was pretty bad but in the end, Carmella will be just fine. That makes her an overall winner.
